Saving and preserving what is special and unique about Arthur Head/J Shed

by dgeorgieva on 21 June 2017

Four years ago FICRA, along with the J Shed artists and Fremantle Roundhouse Volunteer Guides commenced the opposition to the development of a massive tavern for 400-800 people on Arthur Head at J Shed by Sunset Venues PTY LTD.

Two years ago the City awarded Sunset a 21 year lease for Unit 1 and Sunset then engaged in a temporary activation of this site over October 2015 – April 2016.

In September 2016 the WA Planning Commission rejected the Sunset Events development application.
Sunset Events have not undertaken any further activation of Unit 1 since April 2016. The commencement date of the 21 year lease is July 1st and Sunset are required to fill the lease performance obligations and pay rent from this date.
However Sunset has now applied for a one year delay in the commencement of their obligations under the lease.
FICRA has responded to this application to the City in the attached submission which has been sent to the Mayor and other members of the ‘Finance Policy Operations and Legislation Committee’ ([download id=”57″]).

This matter was considered by the Committee on Wednesday, June 14 and FICRA was there representing residents. The matter is to be decided upon by full council at the end of June.

Convenor, FICRA
